Batman 1966 | Two-Face Twosday | Part 2 of 2

In Part 1, we discussed Harlan Ellison's story treatment for episodes of the 1960s Batman television featuring Two-Face.  These episodes were never filmed, but it has been fun to speculate who would have played Two-Face had he been part of the Batman '66 rogues gallery.  Rumors still circulate that Clint Eastwood would have been considered for the part.

2017 saw the release of an animated Batman vs. Two-Face movie set in the Batman '66 universe.  Adam West and Burt Ward returned to voice Batman and Robin and Julie Newmar voiced Catwoman (as they had for The Return of the Caped Crusaders animated film in 2016).

William Shatner was cast as the voice of Harvey Dent/Two-Face.  He also provided the visual inspiration for the character.  This was not the first animated likeness of William Shatner; he provided the voice for Captain James Tiberius Kirk in the animated Star Trek series in 1973-74.

Batman vs. Two-Face features Two-Face of course, but also many of the other villains from the Batman television show and comic books.  King Tut and Bookworm are major characters.  Penguin, Joker, and Riddler have speaking roles.  Egghead, Shame, Clock King, and Mr. Freeze are also included in the fun. Hugo Strange and Harley Quinn are also depicted in animated form.  Lee Meriwether (who portrayed Catwoman in the 1966 Batman movie) provides the voice for Lucilee Diamond.

There is a touching moment between Batman and Robin at the end of the film.  Batman tells Robin, "I wouldn't want anyone else at my side, in this never-ending fight against crime."  Adam West died on June 9, 2017.  Batman vs. Two-Face was released after his death.  A post-credits tribute reads, "In Loving Memory of Adam West (1928-2017)  Rest Well, Bright Knight."
