Presidency & Politics | The Hawk and The Dove

This snippet from an ad explains the super-hero duo known as The Hawk and The Dove well: "In 1968 a mysterious voice gifted two teenage brothers, Hank and Don Hall, with superpowers that transformed them into the Hawk and the Dove! The superhero duo embodied the clashing political ideologies of the era, with the Hawk, ever militant, ready to jump into battling evil, and the Dove, a pacifist, refusing to raise a fist.   Fighting for what’s right on different sides of the ideological spectrum, the two clean up crime on the streets of their hometown, face the threat of the Drop Outs gang, take down a group of dangerous escaped convicts, team up with the Teen Titans and attempt to save their father from the wrath of a man he once sent to prison."

As the U.S. awaits election results, I present to you my own take on The Hawk and the Dove trope, "The Republican and The Democrat."  Siblings separated at birth, Elle L'Efant and Donald Keye find themselves on opposite sides of the political aisle.  However, when the mysterious Voice of America endows them each with super powers that can only be used when they work together, they become The Republican and The Democrat!

I'm including a rough sketch below, so you can get an idea of the characters and how the drawing process works for me.  The sketches of Elle and Donald will be swapped in the final piece, as I was still in the process of deciding which would wear the Elephant costume and which would wear the Donkey costume.
