TP Comics Presents | Stupid Powers Comics
As kids, my cousin and I created parodies of nearly every DC Comics super-hero that existed at the time (late 1980s and into the 1990s). For example, the Batman parody was "Fatman" and his sidekick was an android named "Robit." They were named the "Stupid Powers" in homage to the DC Comics action figures sold at the time: the "Super Powers" line by Kenner. Originally these were just little doodles we mailed back and forth, but eventually we began writing and drawing their comic book adventures. Cousin Tim's contribution was REALLY NEAT STUPID POWERS COMICS #1, with Marvel Comics-style adjectives in the title. In the meantime, I started my own adjective-less STUPID POWERS COMICS #1. I completed four more issues, which included a painted cover for issue #5. Both series included "house ads" for other parodies and projects. Many of these cannot be shared at this point because they were either too immature or too mature by today's standards, but I will share a few pages in forth-coming blogs. To the right is my final visit with the Stupid Powers, STUPID POWERS COMICS SPECIAL #1, cover dated 1996, featuring an epic battle between the "Just Us League" and the "Tin Titans." Who re-programmed the Tin Titans to rebel against their mentors and creators? The answer is coming soon, and it may surprise you...
