Who's Who Update | The Justice Battalion

Who's Who: The Definitive Directory of the DC Universe was a 26-issue encyclopedia of hundreds of characters from DC Comics' 50 year publishing history.  The first issue was cover dated March 1985.  Hundreds of characters, vehicles, headquarters, and planets were included, but a number of important faces and places were left out.  So to rectify the situation, I started creating my own Who's Who entries.

In the DC Universe, as U.S. involvement in World War II began, the "mystery men" of the Justice Society of America resigned from the group in order to enlist in the military in their civilian identities. Eventually realizing they could do more good using the full extent of their abilities, they were commissioned by the Army to serve instead as the "Justice Battalion."

Due to the so-called "crisis on infinite earths," the Wonder Woman of the WWII-era was erased from history. Writer Roy Thomas retconned Miss America (Joan Dale) into Wonder Woman's place in the JSA, the All-Star Squadron, and presumably the Justice Battalion.

While Miss America did get an individual entry in the Who's Who Update '88, she was never included in a group entry for  the All-Star Squadron or the JSA. In this homemade Who's Who entry, I photoshopped Diana out of this image of the JSA and added Joan in her place.  The similarities between their costumes was a plus.

Eventually Joan was retconned back out of the JSA when John Byrne sent Wonder Woman's mother Hippolyte back in time to serve as the Wonder Woman of World War II.  I never really cared for that storyline... but at least it happened long after the days of Who's Who.

So welcome to Who's Who, Justice Battalion!
